A Picture Of Me

Produced by Know Your Nation Written and directed by Helena Cohen-Robertson and Mat de Koning Filmed and edited by Mat de Koning

‘A Picture Of Me’ is a collaboration between Know Your Nation and filmmaker Mat de Koning. It documents an exercise undertaken by 7 artists local to WA, who happen to be seniors. They were each asked to create an artwork that, to them, depicts an aspect of their experience of aging. The creative process was filmed with GoPros on foreheads and using a handheld. Once the art was created, we explored together the basis behind each artwork over coffee and cake. We were also lucky enough to obtain deeper insight from each participant as to what, for them, the triumphs and struggles of aging have been and how the realities of aging have differed from their expectations. The result is an eclectic mix of opinions and views about aging provided by our beautiful bunch of artists, set to a visual series captured while the artists’ creative juices were in full flow. As such, this short film also rightfully provides a platform for these 7 locals to show off their unrivalled artistic talents.

We entered this 2 minute film into the Life in Pictures competition at the 2017 Revelation Film Festival in Perth. It was shortlisted in its category as a top five finalist and was awarded the Ambassador's Choice.
